A Summer Letter from Your Dean

Greetings to all; I hope that you are surviving the extreme heat which we are experiencing!

I want to let all of you know of the DELIGHTFUL Summer Series recital which was played this afternoon by Patrick Murphy, with assistance by Sarah Womack, violinist, and Edward Bach, trumpeter, at First Presbyterian Church of Burlington. Those of you who could not attend it missed a real treat. The very good news is that there were present, besides the artist, 137 persons from church, AGO chapter and community. Our reputation is growing!

The other recitals this summer are listed below and begin at 4 PM.

  • July 25 at Guilford Park Presbyterian Church (Bill Allred)

  • August 29 at Jamestown United Methodist Church (Pamela Kane)

I also want to alert everyone to the fact that our 2011 Region IV convention, which our chapter will host, is exactly one year from this week—June 26-29, 2011. We have a lot of work to do, and will be calling on many chapter members for assistance with the minutia involved in such an undertaking, but we are also at the point where we feel excitement building week by week—and there are only 52 such weeks left! Some things which you can do: if you personally know a member of the steering committee or a member of our present chapter board, alert them to any special non-musical skills you might have, no matter how mundane those skills may seem—we will probably need your services at some point. Also, please be open-minded and welcoming if one of us asks for assistance in some area, and in addition, if you have church members who are not AGO members or who may not even be musicians but who are supportive of your own music program, let us know: these may be exactly the persons we would need to help attendees find parking, find the correct door of a venue to enter, locate restrooms, hand out programs, etc. Please do not hesitate to volunteer your own human resources if you think that there is a good chance that they would be able to be involved.

There appears to be an exciting year ahead of us. Enjoy your summer and try to stay cool.
